How to get there?

From Cesky Krumlov: take shuttle bus (around 3-4 hours), you can book in this website.

From Venice:  Take the night train from Venice to Attnang-Puchheim, then change to the train towards Hallstatt Train Station. At the train station, take the ferry to Hallstatt.

From Vienna: Take the train to Attnang-Puchheim, then change to the train towards Hallstatt Train Station. At the train station, take the ferry to Hallstatt.

From Salzburg:

  • By bus: Take Bus 150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl, then change to Bus 542 or 543 towards Gosaumühle/Hallstatt.
  • By bus & train: Take Bus 150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl, then change to the train towards Hallstatt Train Station. At the train station, take the ferry to Hallstatt port.
  • By train: Take the train to Attnang-Puchheim, then change to the train towards Hallstatt Train Station. At the train station, take the ferry to Hallstatt.

You can check timetable and buy ticket of bus and train in OBB website. If you travel in a group consisting of 2-5 persons, you can purchase the Einfach-Raus-Ticket, the day pass for all regional trains in Austria. For group, this ticket is much more cheaper than the regular ticket, you can check the condition and buy this ticket here. If you go by train, another option is Westbahn. The train from this company is only stop at Attnang-Puchheim, so you still need to change to the train towards Hallstatt. For the ferry, you can check timetable here.

What to do and see?

Wandering the tiny streets adorned with beautiful houses in various styles and shades, from the pastel buildings with flowers in old town to the picturesque timber homes along the lake.

Rent an electric boat and explore the lake.

Visit the charnel house in Michael’s Chapel. This charnel house has existed since the 12th century and contained 1200 skulls, more than a half of them are painted, inscribed with the death date and arranged by family.

Hike to the spectacular Hallstatt Skywalk. To get to this world heritage view, you need about 1 hour of trekking or pay 16e for a funicular round trip.

Explore Hallstatt salt mine. This oldest salt mine in the world is located near Hallstatt Skywalk, and you should book salt mine tour in advance on this website.  If you take both funicular and salt mine tour, you should buy combination ticket.
